Julie London

JulieJulie London (nee Peck; September 26th 1926 - October 18 1999) was an American singer and actress with a career that spanned over 40 years. London was a torch singer, known for her smooth, soft voice. She recorded more than 30 albums of jazz and pop standards from 1955 to 1969. The track she recorded "Cry me a river" that she introduced on her debut album, was accepted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2001. London was also nominated in 1974 for the Golden Globe Award for her part as Dixie McCall, a nurse on the television show Emergency! Born in Santa Rosa, California, to vaudevillian parents, London was discovered while working as an elevator operator in downtown Los Angeles, and she began her acting career. London's acting career of 35 years began in the film industry in 1944. It featured roles as the female lead role in a variety of westerns. In the mid-1950s she signed a recording contract with Liberty Records, marking the beginning of her professional career. In 1969, she released her last studio album. But, she continued to be prominent in the emergency series as Dixie McCall, a female nurse. (1972-1979) She starred alongside her husband Bobby Troup. The show was directed by her former husband Jack Webb.
